Girl’s Weekend at a Beautifully Restored Craftsman

This weekend was my annual Girl’s Weekend.
Every year, 5 of my college friends and I get together.
It is mental therapy. One of my friends calls it our mental health weekend, and that couldn’t be more true!
Good conversation, good laughs, good food.
This year we stayed in my friend Heidi’s newly renovated home.
She and her husband purchased a early 1900′s fixer, that ended up taking MUCH longer than they expected.
However….it was worth the wait, because it turned out BEAUTIFULLY!
Her husband did most of the work himself and I was so impressed!
I wish I would have spent a little more time on the photos, but you can see just how fun it was for me to browse around, drooling at all the turn of the century, craftsman details!
This is their upstairs master bath. They turned the tiny attic into a master bedroom, master bath, an extra bedroom and another smaller room they use as a nursery.
I think Potterybarn can look to them for ideas!
They found that cute barrel under the house!
Totally in love with this old door on the barn-door rollers.
They had another chalkboard door on rollers in their sons room that I forgot to take a picture of!
Heidi’s husband made this staircase and he created the pillars to mimic other pillars that were original to the house.
I love that they made such an effort to stick to all the craftsman-style details.
The kitchen is beautiful, yet practical. Heidi actually found these subway tiles at the Habitat Restore!
I’m totally using this gray/green/beige
color on my next cabinets. I love my white ones, but with 5 home schooled children, white is not the best cupboard color!
Heidi chose these butcher-block counters in order to stick to budget (she originally wanted soap-stone).
I personally love butcher-block counter, I think they add character and warmth.
All the details were amazing. The recessed kitchen ceiling, with lights and bead board! Yes please!
…and yes, I’m pretty much in love with that ceiling light fixture!
Leaded glass windows, original built-ins and box-beam ceilings! Can’t beat all of that!
The leaded glass and the bench seating were original, as well as all the 8 inch baseboard.
The picture below shows the leaded glass original built-in, and gives a peak at the original glass door handles.
When they purchased this house, it has so little changed from it’s original state. It even had knob and tube wiring was still working!
It’s nice that so many fantastic details were left!
Despite all it’s old character, the house did have drop ceilings when they bought it.
The original box beams were a nice surprise underneath!
I love how simple and classic this downstairs bath is.
The Subway tile is substantially raised, but not too high, and is capped with a beautiful shelf trim.
The black slate is another great idea that I’m going to steal. I don’t think my kids could stain it.
Yes, I did have to try out this shower! Loved it!
I wish I would have taken more time to photo the master bedroom, their son’s bedrooms and the family room, but I did manage to squeeze in a couple photos of the guest room as I was headed out the door.
This was her great grandmother’s bedroom set. Beautiful!
We had a combined effort to make a couple pillows for Heidi before we left.
Luckily, one of my friend’s is a crafty perfectionist, so I had her cut the material while I sewed it, and another volunteer to do the hand-stitching.
It’s hard to tell, but the paint in the room is a nice blue-ish grey, so the bird pillow was a perfect addition.
